I’d booked Holiday Inn Express hotel through a tour agency in Beijing. The 4 days tour included 3 nights stay in this hotel. Read more about my friendly tour agency in Beijing Here>>

Holiday Inn’s website describes The Holiday Inn Express, Temple of Heaven to be “strategically located in Beijing’s historic downtown” and they do not exaggerate at all as most of the historical tourists’ spots are just a block away!

The hotel is centrally located on the Nanwei Road in Beijing’s Xicheng District and as the name implies it is quite close to the Temple Of Heaven, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Beijing.

In fact, the Temple of Heaven is just 10 minutes’ drive from the hotel, while Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City should take about 15 minutes to reach from the hotel.

The Neighbourhood

There are a number of good eateries within 4-5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. A BIG shopping mall, Wu Mart is right around the corner too.

This quiet and leafy neighbourhood is situated close to the National Grand Theatre, the Wangfujing Pedestrian Street and Qianmen Ancient Shopping Street. So if you are in Beijing for a holiday, this hotel is one of the best options.

The Hotel

This should easily be the best cost effective hotel in Beijing as nowhere will you find $50 rooms with all sorts of modern facilities. The hotel has an inviting lobby with contemporary decor; and some of the friendliest staff work round the clock. You can easily book a tour to the Great Wall or anywhere in and around Beijing with the help of the front desk staffs, who are ready to entertain you 24X7. Coaches and tour guides are also available on request.

Lounging Zone

A stairway leads up to the dining and lounging (free internet) zone. If you have a breakfast included room booked, the sumptuous buffet spread, that includes both Chinese and Continental food, will surely set your mood right for the day.

There’s an ATM machine and a currency converting machine right inside the hotel lobby so no running around bank to bank for those extra cash that you might need. A miscellaneous shopping store (Lucky Chain Store) in the ground floor sells nearly everything from cup noodles to souvenirs (but at slightly inflated rates).

The Room

The rooms are clean, modern and brightly lit. Mine was a double bedded room with an extra sofa cum bed that oversees the quiet neighbourhood. The room had all the basic amenities from a TV to a Coffee Table, from soft cushy beds to bathroom slippers.

The Bathroom is spacious, has separate bath ‘n toilet and comes with fitted necessities.

Verdict: Super “cost effective”
